Consumer Signals

Consumer Signals is a consumer intelligence platform that tracks early-warning signals in consumer demand, pricing behaviour, and spending patterns across the US and UK economies. It serves investors, strategy teams, and consumer-sector operators.
API access is available exclusively on the Enterprise plan. Professional and Team customers access Consumer Signals through the web application.

CPIx — Consumer Pressure Index

The proprietary composite index at the heart of the platform. CPIx is a single score (0–100) that summarises the overall level of consumer pressure across the economy, computed daily from multiple weighted economic drivers.
ClassificationMeaning
stableConsumer economy operating normally
rising_pressureEmerging stress — monitor closely
elevated_stressMaterial consumer headwinds in play
Separate US and UK indices are maintained, each with geography-specific driver compositions.

Signals

The platform generates signals across the US and UK that represent detected shifts in consumer conditions. Each signal includes a headline, severity level, confidence score, time horizon, and sector-level impact assessments.

Signal lifecycle

Signals fire when conditions are met, persist while those conditions hold, and expire when they clear. The platform deduplicates to ensure each active signal carries weight.

Pattern signals

Pattern signals combine multiple individual signals into higher-confidence composite indicators — for example, when credit, sentiment, and spending signals converge simultaneously.

Confidence scoring

Each signal carries a confidence score (0–100) informed by the severity of the underlying data, the number of confirming conditions, and the platform’s empirical accuracy record.

Geography model

Almost every endpoint accepts a geography query parameter:
  • "US" (default) — US consumer economy
  • "UK" — UK consumer economy
The platform maintains separate data pipelines, signal engines, and briefings for each geography.

Sectors

Six consumer sectors are tracked with dedicated analysis:
Sector IDDisplay Name
travelTravel & Hospitality
groceryGrocery & Staples
retailRetail
apparelApparel & Fashion
restaurantsHospitality
home_goodsHome & Improvement
Each sector includes a pressure score, active signals filtered by relevance, trend data, and company exposure analysis classifying public equities as high-exposure or defensive.

Briefings

Weekly AI-generated briefings synthesise the current state of consumer conditions into structured, actionable intelligence covering key signals, historical context, sector implications, company exposure, and forward-looking outlook probabilities.

What the API delivers

The Enterprise API provides programmatic access to:
  • CPIx scores and drivers — current composite score with full driver decomposition
  • Signals — active consumer signals with severity, confidence, and sector impacts
  • Briefings — weekly structured analysis with outlook probabilities
  • Trends — consumer intent search baskets tracking demand shifts
  • Market data — curated economic series across US and UK (labour, credit, spending, housing, macro)
  • Sector analysis — per-sector pressure scores, company exposure, and UK import pressure modelling
  • AI investigation — natural language queries against the platform’s data context
  • Alerts — threshold-based notifications on CPIx, signals, and series data
